Beyond Diet Wars & Understanding "hormetic stressors" and nuance when it comes to anti-nutrients - fruits & fuel. A balanced conversation.
The nuance of food...
If there is one thing I have learned since starting to share information online over 6 years ago, it's that people are extremely attracted to bold statements.....and nuanced conversations often get scrolled past.
After intensely working with tons of clients all over the world - designing programs, and having thousands of conversations......I realized that the extreme - dogmatic information was doing people a major disservice (and causing more confusion).
Seeing how upset & confused people get (and then having to unravel the damage this does to them mentally & sometimes physically) - has made me more and more bold on speaking about these topics.
So today I want to share a conversation I had with my friend Carrie all about this, and tomorrow's email will talk more in depth about situations where I do recommend eliminating certain plants/antinutrients from the diet (ex: autoimmune, thyroid - etc).
Plants - Sugar & Seasonality - Cutting through the noise
This week, Carrie & I are sharing why we stopped fearing plantsβand what the conversation around food and health really needs right now.
With all the online talk about fruit, fiber, and even apples (yes, apples!), we wanted to zoom out and talk about hormesisβthe concept that small, natural stressors like polyphenols, sunlight, cold exposure, and fasting can actually make us more resilient.
However - this all depends on context, capacity, and balance. We dive into how to know if a stressor is helping or harming, what weβve changed in our own approaches to diet, and why fear-based nutrition just isnβt it anymore. If youβve ever felt confused by conflicting advice online, this oneβs for you.
