The Light Threshold for Detox?

Before You Cleanse, Read This

Happy Chinese New Year (And a Better Way to Detox)

Happy Chinese New Year 🤍 Welcome to the Year of the Horse.

If you’ve felt the urge to clean house lately - physically, emotionally, metabolically - you’re not alone. I went on a full reset spree this weekend myself.

But before anyone jumps into binders, parasite cleanses, or aggressive detox protocols… something important just published.

A brand new randomized controlled human trial showed how morning light specifically impacts detox!

Keep reading to see what this means for you & how to implement it!

🚨 I have added 3 new protocols to The Protocols - (night shift - deuterium awareness & circadian timing of therapies & exercise) - and extended the $50 coupon with purchase through tonight!

The Protocols will be available ongoing - but if you want 15% off and the $50 coupon - tonight is the last night! click here for more information

Why people might be jumping into "detox" too soon

A brand new randomized controlled human trial showed that 8 weeks of structured morning bright light (5,000 lux for 30 minutes) improved imaging markers associated with glymphatic function - the brain’s waste clearance system.

It also reduced inflammatory cytokines.

Improved depressive symptoms.

And increased prefrontal cortex activity.

This is one of the first controlled human trials linking a circadian light intervention to a brain “clearance” marker.

In other words - before detox supplements… there’s signal (and many people are missing it right off the bat).

Morning light strengthens circadian amplitude, and circadian amplitude is what stabilizes sleep timing and depth. When sleep is organized, clearance processes in the brain and liver are better timed, and when clearance is better timed, inflammatory signaling often improves.

And if the brain runs on a clearance rhythm, the liver absolutely does too.

In my full Substack article, I break down:

  • What the RCT actually measured (DTI-ALPS index)
  • Why 5,000 lux is very different from “opening your curtains”
  • How inflammation itself is rhythmic
  • Why detox culture skips the timing piece
  • And how to translate this into an actual protocol you can use

I also explain why mornings matter more than most people realize - and why nights have to be dark for any of this to work.

You can read the full article here, and If you want to measure your lux to make sure you are hitting the 5,000 lux threshold every morning - MyCircadianApp has a brand new lux session timer!

Click here to download & use code Sarahk to access the lux session timer - which helps you understand how long you need to be outside on those dim/cloudy days. (I am working on an instructional video - stay tuned)
