Are these really a problem? Breaking down the science & practical application...
Bringing some nuance to one of my most frequently asked questions...
Lately I've been taking a look at some of my most frequently asked questions to create more free content here in the newsletter & more in depth lessons in my flagship course: The 21 Day Leptin Reset.
Today we are going to dive into concerns over sunglasses, contacts, glasses, lasik & cataracts (and if you have the 21 Day Leptin Reset - this brand new lesson should have populated into the introduction section today!).

What you actually need to know!
A little background if you are new here: When light enters your eye, it plays a crucial role in regulating the body's circadian rhythms through its interaction with the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN).
Since every single cell & organ system in your body has a circadian clock in front of it (we are meant to release hormones, undergo repair/detox, change body temperature for optimal sleep, and so much more - in response to the light entering our eyes) - it is important that we are careful not to filter out too much natural light.
Your eyes, brain & skin are constantly in communication & UV light is crucial for serotonin production, (which is converted into that night's melatonin) dopamine production, alpha MSH (which helps to regulate your appetite) & tells your skin that it needs to make urocanic acid and melanin to help protect you from stronger sunlight (see paper).β
When we wear sunglasses we are more prone to sunburn, hormone imbalance (can tell your body to stop making cortisol during the day) & they can make you more prone to depression (see paper).β
HOWEVER - It is still important to protect your eyes if you are on sand, snow, water, concrete (anywhere there is an unnatural glare) - or if you feel you cannot see well while driving. Please use your best discretion & know that you CAN still damage your eyes if you look directly at the sun. Bon Charge has more circadian friendly sunglasses - use code quantumpod to save on yoursβ
If your eyes are extremely sensitive to sunlight - start with morning sunlight - which is rich in red & near infrared & small doses. Wear a hat & seek shade when possible. Avoid wearing sunglasses all the time (this article is not advising the use of sunglasses all the time & is not medical advice) & give yourself breaks to see natural light through the day, and slowly build up your tolerance.
Now to eyeglasses
Eyeglasses do block out UV - but please keep yourself safe! Go somewhere and sit down to get natural light (so you do not trip and fall) & you can also slide your glasses down to the edge of your nose.
Alcon brand (Dailies) is the only brand I am aware of that does not use a UV filter on their contacts
Here is a post that talks more about more circadian friendly contact choices - click here.
Lasik & Cataract Surgery
What I am about to say here might be disagreed upon by many other Quantum/Circadian Practitioners - but we have photoreceptors on our skin (literally all over our bodies) AND our bodies are AMAZING at adapting to change.
There is no un-doing these surgeries & you can absolutely still get benefits from going outside in the morning & being in natural sunlight!
When you truly study Quantum Biology - you can see that we only know the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how the body operates on a bio-electrical basis & light hitting your eyes/brain are very capable of adapting after these surgeries.
In other words - do not stress over things that are already done!
Stress can alter mitochondrial function up to 30% (see with work of Dr. Martin Picard) - so your perception of your ability to heal is AS IMPORTANT as all of the protocols here.
Control what you can & you are further down the road than 99% of people.
