if you’re still using sunscreen, check for this

I want everyone to know about this ingredient...(you probably haven't heard of it)

Check for this in your swim bag...

Hi Reader,

If you’re still using sunscreen this summer, I need you to check the label for this ingredient: retinyl palmitate.

Most people have never heard of it. It’s a synthetic form of vitamin A that’s been added to hundreds of sunscreen formulas for decades, not to protect you from the sun, but to make your skin look younger.

Brands like Coppertone, Banana Boat, and Neutrogena all carried it.

Here’s the problem with retinyl palmitate:

When sunlight hits retinyl palmitate it generates free radicals that can damage DNA. The NTP, which is part of the NIH, ran studies on it. Independent scientists confirmed the findings. The FDA nominated it for photocarcinogenicity testing back in 2000. They still haven’t acted.

So you have an ingredient that speeds up free radical damage in the presence of sunlight, sitting inside your sunscreen. That’s worth knowing about.

And then there’s oxybenzone, which you may have already heard of. The FDA’s own studies found it in human blood, urine, and breast milk after topical application, and it stays in your bloodstream above safety thresholds for up to 21 days after you stop using it.

Two different ingredients, two different concerns, one easy fix: check your formula and swap to mineral.

Here are a couple safer options if you are looking to switch this summer (click here) - and if you really want the deal on safe sun exposure this summer - I would love to have you at my free webinar this week on Thursday!

We’re going deeper on all of this, including how your mitochondrial health and circadian biology actually determine how well your body handles sun in the first place.

We are covering:

  • The truth about sunscreen (it’s not all bad OR all fine, the details matter)
  • Why sunglasses worn all the time may be working against your circadian biology & skin health
  • How to do a safe sun exposure session, including if you have sensitive or reactive skin
  • Vitamin D: why supplementing often doesn’t work and what could be actually blocking your synthesis
  • The vitamin & mineral deficiencies that make sun sensitivity worse
  • Foods and supplements that can support building real skin resilience from the inside
  • The seed oil connection most people don’t know about
  • HOW to identify your skin type and build a safe exposure protocol that actually works for YOU
